We just found out Chef Ryan Chan will be leading the kitchen of one of our favorite and award-winning local craft breweries!
Helio Basin Brewing has announced the arrival of Ryan Chan as head chef and the release of their new menu, curated by Chef Ryan. Originally from the suburbs of Detroit, Chef Ryan started cooking at the tender age of seven and within a few years had taken over cooking during the holidays. In 2003, Ryan moved to Arizona to attend Scottsdale Culinary Institute to further hone his cooking skills. His first job in the restaurant business was at Duke’s Sport Bar & Grill where he worked every position and learned the ins and outs from Al and Jackie McCarthy. After nearly 10 years, Ryan took a position in the kitchen at Four Peaks Grill & Tap in Scottsdale, furthering his knowledge in menu development and kitchen management eventually being promoted to the head chef position at Four Peaks’ flagship pub in Tempe.
Combining influences from his Chinese heritage and French culinary training, Ryan has perfected the art of approachable, classic food with a twist. At Helio Basin Brewing Co., he focuses on creating quality food to pair beautifully with their award-winning craft beer. In the kitchen, he promotes a team and family-centric environment amongst his employees and continues to push his skills to incorporate diverse techniques, spices and products in his from-scratch cooking. Soon Helio Basin Brewing Co. will be adding more complete dishes to their brewpub menu with local and sustainable being at the forefront.
“For me, I became a chef because I loved making my family happy with food, I remained a chef because I love making others happy with my food,” said Chef Ryan Chan, head chef of Helio Basin Brewing Co. “I don’t want to be known for just one cuisine, I want to be known for food that is infused with many different world flavors that are approachable to all palates.”
With casual dine-in and to-go options, Helio’s menu will be primarily centered around home-made pub fare with global influences. From a rich red pork posole with all of the traditional fixings to a bulgogi cheesesteak sandwich served on a house-made bun, baked with Helio’s very own pale ale. Longtime guests will recognize the seared banana cornbread which has become a signature menu item for Helio. For lighter fare, guests can enjoy a fresh shrimp ceviche or a coffee-rubbed tenderloin salad.
In addition to the chef and subsequent menu, guests can also enjoy the recent addition of several indoor games like ping-pong, foosball and shuffleboard to enjoy while sipping one of Helio’s craft beers and grabbing a bite. Helio Basin Brewing Co. is open daily Tuesday through Thursday for dinner from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays for lunch and dinner from 11:00 a.m. to 11 p.m., Sundays for lunch and dinner from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and is closed on Mondays.
