Last week Food & Wine invited Bitches Food Club and a few of our other favorite foodie friends to Andaz Resort and Spa for a cocktail hour to check out their Farm to Table Dining experience and offerings. Of course, we were excited to check out all the local goodness of the new hotel and see what they’re serving!First things first, when we see Tito’s and grapefruit you can be sure we order two. The restaurant overlooks the pool with a beautiful patio and modern decor.Among the offerings was Huss Brewing. We tried an assortment of their samplings and decided on the Scottsdale Blonde. A local cheese maker was offering bruschetta and a mushroom chicken quesadilla that we were happy to try because. Cheese. But the real star of this show was the fried cheese curds. At Cult Coffee Roaster’s station, we tried an amazing Organic Bolivia Illimani in nitro-form and took bites of a coffee cheesecake with a housemade mesquite graham cracker crust from pastry chef Colleen. The Nitro cold brew was smooth and velvety. We can’t wait to make it over to Cult for a tasting so we can elaborate on all their coffee selections.Another local favorite is Arizona Distilling Co. Their Copper City Bourbon is probably our favorite. We tried their smooth Desert Durum Wheat Whiskey. What? We can drink our pasta in alcohol form? Yes! This went down surprisingly easy- it was much softer than traditional whiskey… which also goes down easy, but you know. And then, a n d t h e n! There was Blue Sky Organic Farms with not only the best strawberries dessert and beet salad but also this amazing Vanilla Apple Sauce. In addition to the apples, crystallized maple sugar, and touch of cinnamon, each jar is sealed with an entire scraped vanilla bean inside so the flavors can continue to marry together and each bite is infused with the sweet, warm flavors of vanilla. We didn’t know applesauce could be so decadent, it tasted like the inside of apple pie done right. Actually, we didn’t even know apple sauce could even surprise us. Nice job, Blue Sky! We followed that up by… eating more. The Pecan Romesco was made using produce from Blue Sky Organic Farms and it is probably the best savory thing we tried all night… but we will never love anything as much as that apple sauce.
